I knew the Black Keys were pretty popular in Louisville, but I was still surprised when they announced the show was already sold out last week. The blues-rock duo hail from Akron, OH and have a recent -- and very good -- release out, Brothers, featuring the single, "Tighten Up," which has just been annnounced as a nominee for an MTV Breakthrough video award.
The concert is Wednesday, August 11, 6:30 p.m., at Iroquois Amphitheater, opened by the Morning Benders. If you had your heart set on it, it might be worth going over early to see if some tickets are being released ($30 at the venue, if so) or to see if those put off by the freakish heat are willing to unload some tickets. Keep your ears open to WFPK to see if any more giveaways or other opportunities come to light. And, since this is a Metro Parks event, it would be wise to stay tuned to @loumetrparks on Twitter, just in case. You should follow them anyway -- they tweet lots of good info and other fun stuff.
The fact that this is a sold-out show leads me to advise My Morning Jacket fans not to snooze on securing your tickets for the KFC Yum! Center show on October 29, that is featuring and benefiting the Louisville Youth Orchestra. As Eve Lee pointed out earlier in her post, ear-X-tacy has a special pre-sale opportunity for general admission tickets starting at 10 a.m.on August 12 at the store ($48 cash), while they last; otherwise, tickets go on sale Saturday, August 14 via Ticketmaster.com and TM locations. This will be a hot ticket -- don't dilly-dally.
