The East Market district just got a new addition and what a sweet addition it is. Cake Flour, at 909 East Market, is a natural bakery. Owner, and French Culinary Institute graduate, Claudia DeLatorre boasts that Cake Flour uses only natural, real ingredients. No artificial sweeteners or dyes, no hydrogenated oils or frankenfoods. Only natural ingredients whose names you’d recognize (and probably be able to spell).

In addition to all the tasty treats you’d expect a bakery to have (cakes, cookies, brownies, etc) Cake Flour also has organic coffees and teas, vegan pastries, scones, muffins and quiches. Since they open at 7AM during the week (except for Monday when the shop is closed) this may be a perfect stop for downtown workers to get coffee and breakfast before getting to the office.

Cake Flour has a few specialty items they’re particular proud and I look forward to trying every single one (except the trail cookie. That sounds too hearty to be chosen over sunshine cupcakes or 60-proof brownies). 60-Proof Brownies - made with 60% cacao semisweet chocolate Fluffies - homemade chocolate and vanilla marshmallows Love Bugs – chocolate cake bugs full of chocolate love Sunshine Cupcakes – lemoncello (Italian lemon liquor) cake with lemon buttercream Black & White – soft vanilla cookie with chocolate and white icing Trail Cookies – full of raisins, apricot, cherries and walnuts Spring – pear mousse with vanilla cake and fresh whipped cream and glaze The Cheddar – cheddar herb scones Wakeup Quiche – made with fresh eggs from Kentucky farms Cake Flour is located at 909 East Market (across the street from the John Yarmouth headquarters). Hours are Tuesday – Friday 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM and 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday.
