Despite the rain and fire on Friday, convention junkies braved the “Louisville apocalypse” to enjoy ConGlomeration over the weekend. Having never been to ConGlomeration, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Dubbed “Louisville’s Grassroots Convention,” I can honestly say the con held true to its moniker. The convention seemed more like a family reunion, complete with a smorgasbord of homemade food available for any attendee to devour. Not every convention gives you free food and drinks!

This convention was different from many in the area as it is specifically a “sci-fi and fantasy” convention. With equal parts science fiction and fantasy, the convention was able to make everyone from fairies and trolls to superheroes and gamers feel welcome. The fantasy element of this convention is usually seen most heavily at Renaissance festivals not conventions. It was nice being able to see Renaissance characters and merchandise in such number at a convention.

The dealer room was set up nicely with vendors around the walls and an art show/silent auction in the middle. Attendees were able to pick their poison with panels on everything from watching anime to writing and painting occurring all day. The game room was spacious and allowed for many tabletop games to be played at once. A costume contest/masquerade and concert was held at night after the dealer room closed. Into the night, many after-parties ensued including one thrown by the Louisville Ghostbusters.

If you’re looking for a laid back convention where you can make new friends and catch up with old ones, I would definitely suggest attending ConGlomeration next year.
