Democratic Attorney General Jack Conway and Republican Matt Bevin will square off next Friday June 19 in the first of many gubernatorial debates.

The debate, to be held at the Galt House as part of the County Judge-Executive/Magistrates Conference, was announced via a statement released by Conway in which he states “These debates will offer voters a clear contrast, and I’m excited to share my plans to continue moving Kentucky forward by focusing on middle-class priorities like job creation, education and making government do more with less as Kentucky’s next governor.”

The governor hopefuls will then meet at the Kentucky Farm Bureau’s “Meet the Candidates” event at Centre College on July 23. This will be televised by WAVE-TV and hosted by AARP. Conway and Bevin will also share the stage at this year’s Fancy Farm picnic on August 1. Kentucky Sports Radio host Matt Jones will introduce the candidates and make remarks at this premier political event in the state.

WLKY-TV, WKYT-TV and the Kentucky League of Women Voters will host Bevin and Conway at Eastern Kentucky University on October 25, followed by Kentucky Educational Television’s “Kentucky Tonight” debate on October 26.

Bevin’s campaign manager, Ben Hartman, said Bevin is excited to offer his ideas for the next gubernatorial administration, saying this extensive debate schedule is “better for the people of Kentucky to get to hear the differences between the two candidates.”

The General Election Day is November 3. Regardless of the outcome between Bevin and Conway, it will be the first governor from the city of Louisville since Lawrence Wetherby (1950-1955).
