In a recent interview with Louisville.com, Diego Garcia talks about returning to Louisville as, “returning to the scene of the crime”. The crime, of course being his virgin experience in the Derby City. For months, Diego has looked forward to returning here, and seeing the friends he made the first time around.
With a mixture of originals and covers, Diego is making the journey from his home in New York to share some of that Garcia love with Louisville. Garcia describes his first visit to Louisville as, “the first kiss”, he adds. “now that we know each other better, this trip may lead to second base”. Garcia is all about the love. Diego released Laura just before his visit here in December with the title track, “You Were Never There”. Diego describes the song as, “lyrically centered around the idea of being in love with someone that isn't in your life anymore, getting some things of your chest, and hoping they feel the same way wherever they may be." Diego feels there is nostalgia in the sound, both in the music and in the lyrics; a sound reminiscent of the sixties.
Diego is of the now broken band, Elefant, which as a member Garcia helped pen many of the songs on their three full length albums. A new venture in solo performance is a new chapter for Garcia, the beginnings of a new relationship with his fans. As for the covers Diego will perform, he looks to them as a means, “to get people on their feet”.
