    Photographing the Winter Landscape

    The seemingly stark winter landscape is in reality full of magic and beauty in Bernheim's arboretum habitat displays and plant collections.  Come discover the flowers, berries, bark, color and textures of nature in winter and expand your photography skills with expert nature photographer Mike Matthews.  This program is from 10:00 a.m. to noon; the fee is $45 for members and $55 for non-members.  Advance registration required. Age 13 and up. Meet at the Visitor Center.  Call (502) 955-8512 to register or learn more.

    Also on this day, fair weather naturalists and families can come to Bernheim’s Visitor Center from 1 – 4pm to make a free Bernheim Bits of Winter bracelet and get directions for a self-guided Winter Driving Tour of the Arboretum Grounds, or take self-guided walk on the Sun and Shade Loop to discover and photograph your own "stars" of the winter landscape.

    Getting to Know Trees in Winter

    Visitors to Bernheim can enjoy the form and beauty of trees throughout the winter months. But on this day we are having a special celebration of trees in winter. From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. children can experience free tree inspired craft activities and tree discovery stations at the Visitor Center. Adults and families can go on self-guided walks through Bernheim's world renowned holly collection and the Sun and Shade Loop to view the numerous plant and tree specimens of winter interest. Visitors can also participate in the naturalist guided program "Getting to Know Trees in Winter" from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. to learn tree lore and winter tree identification tips. Age 13 and up.

    Bernheim's gate is open every day 7 a.m. until sunset, except December 25 and January 1.  Admission to the park is always free for members and free for all every weekday.  Weekends and holidays have a $5 environmental impact fee per vehicle for the public.  The Visitor Center and Gift Shop are open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day, including weekends.  Isaac’s Café is located in the Visitor Center with refreshments.  Nature classes and group hiking opportunities are available, current offerings are online at bernheim.org.  Bernheim is located in Clermont, KY, a short half hour from Louisville.  From I-65, take exit 112 and follow the signs.  The entrance is approximately one mile from the interstate.  Bernheim is a non-profit organization that relies on memberships, grants and donations for support.
