As the summer draws to a close, it’s important to grab that last taste of outdoor freedom. Don’t miss your chance at this month's Foxhollow Farm Sunset Concert of the summer, featuring Small Time Napoleon.

Foxhollow Farm is a 1300 acre farm in Crestwood dedicated to raising 100 percent grassfed, organic beef and finding a balance between human industry and the natural world, according to its website.

The second Friday of each month this summer, rain or shine, the people of Foxhollow Farm have held the second annual Sunset Concert Series, a family-friendly event featuring local music and locally-grown food.

August’s concert will feature food from Wiltshire Pantry Bakery, Sweet and Savory, Farm to Fork Catering, Red Top Gourmet Hotdogs, Gelato Gilberto, Tasty Tuxedo and Sweet 240.

“Part of our mission is to let people experience a working farm, and we were trying to think of ways to let people experience that,” said Maggie Keith, a fourth generation owner of Foxhollow. “What better way than music? We have a big, open field, so why not invite people to come out.”

And people have come out. In droves. Keith said there were about 1000 people at the June concert, when Junk Yard Dogs played.

Previous performers this summer have included Kyle James Hauser, Howell Dawdy and A Lion Named Roar. Small Time Napoleon will be the last installment of the series, bringing its combination of swing, jazz and folk to the farm stage. Nellie Pearl will be joining the band.

If you want more to do than just listen and enjoy the fresh air, Foxhollow is happy to oblige.

“We have an education garden, the kitchen garden, right nearby,” Keith said. “Also, we have our greenhouses and hoop houses. But the thing that people like the most is that we have ducks and chickens and pigs right close by that they can walk and see. And gardens everywhere.”

If you can’t make it to any of the Sunset Concerts this time around, don’t worry. Foxhollow will be bringing you the Home Page Realty Concert in September, which will benefit Dare to Care.

“We’re going to try to raise enough money to donate a whole cow of meat to [Dare to Care],” Keith said. More details on the Home Page Realty Concert are coming soon.

Pets (on leashes) are welcome at the Small Time Napoleon concert, and everyone is encouraged to bring blankets and chairs to the outdoor event. Organizers ask that no outside food or drink be brought.

The Small Time Napoleon concert will be August 14, 6 – 9 p.m. at Foxhollow Farm (8905 Kentucky 329, Crestwood, KY 40014). General admission is $10 and the concert is free for children under 12. Tickets include the cost of parking. Buy tickets here before they sell out.
