It might seem tough making sushi in a city known for its original southern-style cuisine and bourbon, but the folks at Louisville’s Osaka have made the restaurant a classic Japanese staple in Louisville’s food scene. Whether you’re a connoisseur of Osaka’s lengthy sushi menu, or you’re a sushi first-timer, here’s everything you’ll need to know about this spot for when your next (or first) sushi craving hits!

    What to Wear:

Frequented by many of Louisville’s finest businessmen and women during the daily lunch rush, you’ll find many of Osaka’s patrons in a business causal dress code during the afternoon. And in the evening, this restaurant becomes the ultimate setting for an adorable first date or anniversary dinner worthy of dressing up.

    Where to Park:

Abundant street parking is available at both of Osaka’s Louisville locations. Don’t forget that meter parking is free in Louisville Monday – Saturday after 6 p.m. and all day Sunday!

    What to Order:

Although Osaka is known for its impressively wide variety of sushi, this restaurant also has a full menu of other traditional Japanese dishes. If you’re not in the mood for sushi, we recommend the deliciously seared teriyaki salmon. It comes with white rice and freshly steamed vegetables.

Sushi-lovers will go crazy for Osaka’s Brian Roll. Drizzled in house sweet and spicy sauce, this roll combines everything you love about soft spicy crab with cool cucumber, avocado and both crispy fried and steamed shrimp.

Vegetarians will love Osaka’s Sweet Roll. Unlike a typical vegetable roll, the Sweet Roll introduces the fresh earthy flavor of avocado to its scrumptious new best friend, sweet potato. And if you want to add more to this perfect combination, order a hot cup of seaweed soup on the side.

    How Much:

All of Osaka’s nigiri and sashimi are priced at $6.95 and under. Classic and specialty sushi rolls range in price from $5.95 (classic California roll) to $24.95 (specialty King Cobra Roll). Non-sushi entrees are priced at $19.95 and under.

    Wait Time:

Guests should not expect to wait for a table at either location during daytime hours. However, expect to wait up to 30 minutes for a table on a Saturday night. Call 502-894-9501 (Frankfort Avenue) or 502-588-8899 (downtown) to make a reservation.

Osaka is located at 2039 Frankfort Avenue and is open Sunday – Thursday from 11am – 10pm and Friday – Saturday from 11am – 11pm. Its downtown location is at 426 West Market Street and is open Monday – Friday 11am – 2pm for lunch and 4pm – 9pm for dinner and Saturday 11am – 9pm.
