The folks at Roux aren’t exaggerating with their “We are New Orleans” slogan. This Highlands restaurant’s impressive menu, packed full of traditional creole flavors, is enough to convince anyone that their taste buds deserve a trip to Louisiana. But until you can make it down to the Big Easy, we’ve got all the details you’ll need to plan your next (or very first) trip to Roux right here in Louisville.

    What to Wear:

Roux is a unique two-story building which features patio and dining room seating on the first floor, and an old-fashioned speakeasy setting on the second floor, complete with a full bar and small two-seat tables. So for those planning to dine on the patio or in the lower dining room, follow a casual dress code. However, for the bar section, dressy attire is fine too! (Especially for Roux’s weekend jazz nights that feature live performances from local jazz bands.)

    Where to Park:

Roux offers the Highlands’ most prominent parking option: street parking. Meters are available all throughout Bardstown Road and free street parking is often available on side streets near Roux, like both Rosewood and Longest Avenues.

    What to Order:

Though Roux has a complete menu of appetizers, its side and soup and salad menus each feature portions large enough to share. We recommend ordering the She Crab Soup as an appetizer for a table of two. This thick bisque is more of a delicious dip than a soup, full of fresh hot crab and topped with a dollop of caviar. It’s served with a French baguette, an item that is delivered fresh to Roux twice each week straight from New Orleans.

Seafood-lovers will have their minds blown by Roux’s Shaved Fried Catfish. This generous helping of cornmeal-fried catfish topped with one-of-a-kind green cabbage slaw pairs perfectly with a side of Roux’s cheesy Weisenberger Grits.

Vegetarians will find Creole Heaven with Roux’s Creole Brined Crispy Tofu. Large pieces of delicately fried tofu, shaved radish, pea shoots and roasted carrot vinaigrette are piled high on a bed of flavorful beluga lentils. Try it with a side order of cold charred Caponata.

    How much:

A table of two that is sharing an appetizer and a larger-than-life side dish along with their entrees and a beer each from Roux’s impressive beverage menu should expect the total bill to be between $44 - $60.

    Wait Time:

Guests who plan to dine at Roux for dinner Monday-Thursday shouldn’t expect to wait for a table. However, when dining on the weekends, especially when the live jazz band is performing and during Saturday and Sunday brunch hours, expect to wait up to thirty minutes for a table.

Roux is located at 1325 Bardstown Road and is open Monday – Saturday 11am – 9pm and Sunday 10am – 9pm. Brunch is served Saturday 11am – 3pm and Sunday 10am – 3pm. The bar is open late on Fridays and Saturdays until midnight for the restaurant’s jazz nights. To sneak a peek at Roux’s full current seasonal menu, check out its website.
