Switzerland County Tourism invites any business, club or organization to submit an entry into their Decorate a Scarecrow contest. The contest is open to any business, club or organization from any area and of any age group. Entries must be checked in at the Switzerland County Visitors Center located at 128 West Main Street in downtown Vevay by noon on October 3. All businesses, clubs or organizations are responsible for all their supplies and must keep within the size limits of 4 feet wide by 8 feet high. Entries must be freestanding or mounted on a stable moveable surface. No electricity will be available. Participants are urged to be creative, choosing a theme that represents their business, club or organization. Although not required, decorations surrounding the scarecrow such as mums, hay, etc. to enhance its presentation are permitted but must be kept within the size limits. A $300 first, $200 second, and $100 third place award will be given to the top three entries. All scarecrows will be displayed at the Grisard Building located at the corner of Ferry and Main Street in downtown Vevay beginning Oct. 4 and will remain throughout the month of October. No entries can be removed before that time. Clubs or organizations interested in participating in the scarecrow contest are asked to call the Visitors Center at 812-427-3237 by Sept. 26 to pre-register their entry.
