Louisville Metro Councilman James Peden (District 23) is sponsoring a free summer concert series at Highview Park based on the success of the former Music in the Metro. Friday Fest at Highview Park starts on July 6, gates will open at 5:00 p.m. and music will begin at 5:30 p.m. with performances by Eight Inch Elvis and Fade II Grey.
Local vendors will be on hand with a variety of food options, and people are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket to enjoy the show. The event is open to the public, family friendly, and free.
Coming from a hodgepodge of different groups, the current Eight Inch Elvis lineup (with one exception) came together in 2009 with the intention of having fun while playing music and inspiring others to have a great time. With Mike McAfee on Guitar and Frank Green on Bass Guitar, the vocals are handled by Kevin Kelton and Kara Hennis. The band’s newest member is the talented drummer Jeff Williams, who has quickly become a valued member of the Eight Inch Elvis family. Their different tastes and styles allow them to cover an extensive variety of music and bring something different to the table. They can always be counted on to put on a great show.
Fade II Grey is an acoustic rock trio with members Scott Christiansen(Vocals, Guitar, Percussion), Todd Elder(Guitar, Vocals), and Robb Jarrell(Percussion, Vocals). The band was formed in 2006 from the remaining members of the band, Teachers Lounge(1996-2005). Not long after Teachers Lounge disbanded, Scott, Todd, and Robb decided to take their music in a different direction, continuing to perform many of their favorite songs acoustically. After the act's debut in the spring of 2006, the band started to perform regularly around Louisville, both publicly and at private events. Fade II Grey was a featured local act at Louisville's annual Beatles festival, Abbey Road on the River, in 2009. Currently, the band can be seen regularly at the Zeppelin Cafe in Germantown where they have developed a loyal following.
Highview Park is located at 7201 Outer Loop, and people are encouraged to enter through Briscoe Lane. Events will be held every other Friday according to the schedule listed below:
