Local author and performance artist Divinity Rose (that's me - pen name) is re-releasing her children’s book “Snot, Bots, and Other Thoughts” with a big party on Sunday, December 16 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Bearno’s by the Bridge. The party will include karaoke for the whole family, give-aways, activities and more. Admission is free, and free goodie bags are available to the first 50 people to arrive.

Snot, Bots, and Other Thoughts is a humorous and inspiring book of poetry and rhymes that the whole family can enjoy together. The book was originally released in 2008 and sports a style much like Shel Silverstein’s work. The poems range from cute to gross and have entertained children and adults alike at performances in venues that Rose performs at.

The book will be available at the party for $10 and makes a great gift that will spark imagination in children and their families as they laugh at the rhymes that cover a variety of topics like laundry, spider monkeys, snot, the human body, moon munchers, dancing in the shower, technology and more.  Silly illustrations accompany the poems and provoke more laughter with characters like a rabbit in a magician’s hat wearing a shirt that says “I can multiply.”

The back of the book says “I made this book in black and white for a reason. Some people think the world is black and white, but the truth is it is just waiting for us to color it. We color the world around us by filling it with our own magic (ourselves). The world can be different to everyone who views it. I thought it would be cool if this book were a different book for everyone who owns it. That means I need your help to make this book (and our world) full of your very own magic. I need you to share some of your imagination and put yourself into it. Well, grab your crayons and get to it!”

The book is available in Louisville at The Great Escape, A Reader’s Corner Bookstore, Carmichael's and Matt Anthony’s Record Shop ($10) or online at in E-book format ($3.99) where it received close to 400 downloads last week.

    A few of the rhymes:

"Life's possibilities are endless and hanging in the air for you to be forever happy, if you will only dream to dare."

“Put a flower pot on your head, and it becomes a hat. If it’s on the other end, you should have watched where you sat.”

“Since we say things like ‘It’s made of cheese when the full moon is out, do you think on the moon they’d say ‘The earth is made of Sauerkraut?’”

“Don’t ever pick your nose. That’s what they’ve always said, but I had to reassess this rule as questions went ‘round my head. I realized that as our fingers grow, our two nostrils do as well – always the right size to accommodate, at least as far as I can tell.”
