    This weekend in Louisville seems like a culture and learning kind of weekend. All over town there are ways to engage in the arts and literacy realms with your families. Here are some highlights of what's going on this weekend that you and your family can take part in together.


    Friday, May 29 - Good Garbage: Center for Creative Reuse has its grand opening in its new space. They've moved from the Portland area to 2216 Frankfort Avenue in the Clifton area. Check them out tonight from 6pm-9pm for a creative and artsy good time for the whole family.

    Saturday, May 30 - Reading Frenzy happens at the Main Library in downtown Louisville. It's from 10am-12:30pm and is the official summer reading kickoff event for Louisville Free Public Library's annual Summer Reading Program for kids birth to 18. Read more about it here.

    Saturday, May 30 - KMAC MakerSpace Drop In family activities all weekend. On Saturday and Sunday (May 31), families can drop in from 12pm-3pm for free arts and crafts times together. This weekend they are making 3-D cities and macramé. They also have a Toddler Art and Play time from 10-12pm on Saturday.

    Sunday, May 31 - Arts and Culture Day at Brown Foreman Amphitheater at Louisville's Waterfront Park. This is the official kickoff event for the Mayor's Cultural Pass Program and runs from 11am-3pm. There will be art making, performances, prizes and giveaways, and food trucks on site providing good eats. It's all free and will be sure to delight and inspire artists young and old. It's presented in part by the ACA YES Fest of Louisville 2015.

    Monday, June 1 - The Louisville Free Public Library and Half Price Books launch their summer reading programs. Read 10 books with the Library and children are then eligible for some great prizes including a backpack and free coupons and passes to museums, attractions, and cultural institutions around town. At Half Price Books, kids can pick up a reading log to keep track of every 15 minutes they read through July 15. Once 300 minutes are accumulated, turn the log in for a great prize: $5 worth of Bookworm Bucks to be spent at Half Price Books!
