Summers died of wounds he sustained in Paktika Province Afghanistan, when enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire the previous day.  He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and was a native of Mount Olivet, Kentucky.

According to the Maysville Ledger Independent, Sgt. Summers’ parents, Mike and Laura Summers, were notified of his death last Thursday night by two military personnel, and immediately flew to Baltimore, Maryland, to be present when their son’s body arrived.  The Summers family residence is located in Bracken County, near Milford, but the mailing address is Mount Olivet.

Sgt. Summers was a graduate of Bracken County High School and attended college before entering the army in March of 2005.

Funeral services for Sgt. Summers will be held on July 29 at 11 a.m. Eastern time in Cynthina, Ky.  Burial services will immediately follow at Battle Grove Cemetery in Cynthiana.  Gov. Beshear encourages individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in this tribute.
