With the beginning of the school year comes the opening of high school football, and teams across the area have been suited up and perfecting their individual games now for some time.

Commencing in mid-September, this season’s high school varsity football in Kentuckiana should deliver its usual share of surprises, twists, and turns. So, with that in mind and to gear up for this season I thought I’d compile some of the games that I think have the potential to be interesting in one way or another.

    8/19 Ballard v. Western 7:30 at Ballard
8/19 Oldham County v. Atherton 8:00 at Oldham County
Oldham County has many local sports analysts talking, and have the potential to meet a high overall state ranking before the season is out.

    9/02 Central v. DeSales 7:30 at Central

9/09 Clarksville v. Corydon Central 7:00 at Clarksville

9/16 North Oldham v. South Oldham 7:30 at North Oldham
North and South both take this game as their annual landmark game; basically it’s just a good old fashioned rivalry game.

9/23 Bullitt Central v. Henry County 7:30 at Henry County
I like both of these teams, they have no desire to be flashy but what they do want to be are tough and hard working; that to me is what really marks a solid football team.

    9/30 Trinity v. St. X 8:00 at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium
Of course, the perennial high school contest, this year’s shouldn’t disappoint.

    10/07 Butler v. Southern 7:30 at Southern

10/14 Floyd Central v. New Albany 7:00 at New Albany

    10/21 Manual v. Male 7:30 at Male
One of the biggest football rivalries in Kentucky- plus in the interest of full disclosure I am a Manual grad so you knew I’d have to include it.
10/21 Fern Creek v. Eastern 7:30 at Eastern
These two teams, never back down from one another; and that’s the crux of why this game is certainly on my radar.
    10/21 Jeffersontown v. Iroquois 7:30 at Jeffersontown

10/28 Trimble County v. Kentucky Country Day 7:30 at Kentucky Country
KCD (Kentucky Country Day) is one of those sleeper teams that have been quietly making a name for themselves on the grid-iron, and Trimble County is the kind of team that will take on all comers.

    About Dave Rose

Recently, I completed a Masters degree in Education and have been writing for for over a year now, prior to that I published a humor book for young adults titled Wearing Socks with Sandals, a book about getting through high school, college, and all of the requisite problems that present themselves during that time. Currently, I spend much of my time in classroom settings as well as writing in various areas. Of course, I’m a big sports fan and love music and film, and love finding new stuff around Louisville.
