Many people are anxious about the Supreme Court’s upcoming decision on gay marriage legalization in the United States. The Supreme Court should be publishing such a decision in late June. Kentucky has a special investment in the issue because Burke v. Beshear, one of the cases the Supreme Court is considering, is named for Louisville resident Greg Bourke and Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear.

One Louisville bar though is already prepared to welcome in the decision they want. Highlands Tap Room in the Highlands has created an event they are calling a Marriage Celebration. The event is currently slated for June 30 but can change depending on when the Supreme Court announces its decision.

As the description on the Facebook event states: “As You probably know, some time in June, the Supreme Court is expected to legalized gay marriage or, as we like to call it, EQUALITY. When this happens we're going to throw the Mother Of All Wedding Parties! We'll have music, decorations, cake and licensed ministers ready to officiate. Everything you need to have your wedding and reception all in one stop."

If a couple would like to get married at Highland Tap Room during this event, they are asked to bring their marriage license, come to the party, and say “I do.”

After the event description, Highland Tap Room answers a few questions people may ask. They say that a couple does not have to be to get married during the event’s festivities, but “all you need is a marriage license and love.” You can even renew vows at this time. The last question they respond to is whether Highland Tap Room is a gay bar. They respond with an emphatic no and that it is an everyone bar.

Highland Tap Room posted this event to their Facebook page Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. and at the time of this article’s publishing, the event already has over 300 confirmed RSVPs.
