    This Thursday, October 27th, the Louisville Central Community Center will host the 2nd Annual Ed Hamilton Art Show to honor and celebrate local artist Ed Hamilton. Hamilton, a nationally renowned sculptor, has received numerous awards and recognition for his work, including honorary Doctor of Arts degrees from the University of Louisville and Western Kentucky University as well as the National Education Association’s 2010 Carter G. Woodson Memorial Award, a prestigious award bestowed based on his efforts in human and civil rights.

    Hamilton has created monuments in honor of Booker T. WashingtonWhitney M. YoungYork, and Justice William McAnulty, the first African American justice on the Kentucky Supreme Court. His most famous work is the African American Civil War Memorial, The Spirit of Freedom in Washington, DC. More recently, Hamilton crafted the iconic Lincoln Memorial, dedicated in 2009 and located in Waterfront Park near the base of the Big Four Bridge.

    The Ed Hamilton Art Show will take place Thursday, October 27th from 2-8 p.m. at Old Walnut Street, hosted by the LCCC. It is a free event and will feature live art and entertainment, as well as a cash bar and light refreshments.
