    J. Roody Walston & The Business shook the music scene to its core, when blew on the scene with classic rock sensibility, down to earth blue collar lyrics, and a kickass live show that blew their contemporaries out of the water.  It was painfully obvious to anyone that was watching that J. Roddy Walston & The Business meant business.

The release of their debut album “Hail Mega Boys” displayed a bad on the breach, a collective of old souls that had a boogie inside them that needed to be heard, songs like “Rock and Roll, The Second,” “The Times They are a Staying,” and “Stop, Rip & Roll” blew through your speakers and made a musical mess in your ears.  It was transcendent.  It was funky, groovy, rocked-up, blues-downed, soulful and everything in between.  And once legend of their live shows began to circulate, they were clearly a force not to be reckoned with.

    J. Roddy a disheveled half-breed between hipster and hippy offers his signature growl over Billy Gordon’s shredding guitar riffs; while rhythm section Logan Davis and Steve Colmus, bass and drums, respectively keep the groove rollin n’ tumblin’ underneath.

In the years since their debut album the band has released two more albums, their self-titled follow-up to “Hail Mega Boys,” and the 2013 critically acclaimed “Essential Tremors.”  They have also honed their knack for the live concert, through a constant barrage of touring playing all over the country all of the time.  If you have a stage J. Roddy & The Business will show up and play the show, just like they play all of their other shows…as if it might be their last.

    J. Roddy Walston & The Business are going to be doing a two night stand here in Louisville at Headliners Music Hall on Friday May 22nd and Saturday May 23rd.  Both shows begin at 8:00 PM and tickets are still available for both, for $18.  The band Avers will be playing both nights; in addition Graffiti will also be playing the Friday show, while The Hot Wires will perform on the Saturday show.

    About Brent Owen

Born and raised in Louisville, I have lived here most of my life (except during a short furlough, when I, lovelorn and naive, followed a girl to Baton Rouge). My roots are here, my family, my friends, and my life are all here. I work primarily as a free-lance writer for a few local and regional publications. I have also written two books (one a memoir, the other a novel) that barring some divine intervention, will probably never see the light of day. I find myself deeply ingrained in the local bar scene, or perhaps better said, I often indulge in the local drinking culture. I love music, movies, comedy, and really just about any other live performance art.
