The Keeneland Spring Meet kicks off tomorrow and will run through Friday, April 29th. A lot of world-class racing and entertainment is packed into the three-week long meet. Over 15 stakes races are scheduled, including the Grade 1 Ashland Stakes which runs this Saturday and includes many Kentucky Oaks hopefuls, and the Grade 1 Toyota Bluegrass Stakes which will run next Saturday and include many Kentucky Derby hopefuls. The meet will also include two hat trunk shows, some handicapping seminars, and the Markey Cancer Center's Concert on the Lawn which is set for closing day, April 29th.
Unique to Keeneland is the designated tailgating area located adjacent to the Keene Barn and Entertainment Center. It is accessible via Gate 1 at no charge. Complimentary shuttle service to the grandstand is available.
Keeneland is also trying out a new wagering option with this meet. Up to thirty bettors will be selected each Wednesday of the meet to test the new FastBet mobile wagering app, which is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and Android. The wagers will be processed through the track's on-track wagering system as if you had made the bet at the teller or self-wagering machine. Users fund a swipe card that allows them to place bets and cash tickets. The app will be only for on-site use, but will allow users to wager at the track when unable to get to the window in time.
General admission for Keeneland is $5 for adults and free for children under 12 years of age. Gates open at 11:00 AM with the first post at 1:15 PM. More details can be found online at www.Keeneland.com.
