Who remembers the Urban Kitchen food truck that served those amazing tacos in Crescent Hill a couple of summers ago? You know, the ones with the mind-blowing flavors and one-of-a-kind combinations like pulled pork and fried catfish piled high with cilantro and slices of lime? Regardless of whether you were a loyal patron of the food truck, or if you never tried it but were always intrigued by the promise of their delicious tacos, you’ll be happy to know Steve Higdon, creator of Urban Kitchen, is working on something brand new... and he’s taking his mind-blowing taco recipes with him.

After the summer of 2013, the Urban Kitchen’s success came to an abrupt halt after certain events in the lives of its staff caused the food truck to hit the brakes and retire. But two of the business’ biggest fans, Wil Limoges and Charlie Neal, weren’t ready to say goodbye to their favorite cuisine.

“I believed in the product so much that I reached out to Steve to see what we could do to revive it,” Limoges explains. And after his suggestion of revival was made, Higdon was completely onboard and ready to bring back his tacos in a new way, thus the Kentucky Taco Company was born.

Rather than sticking with the food truck concept, Higdon, Limoges and Neal all agreed that a permanently located restaurant would be the best route when starting their new business. Food trucks are successful in the summertime but, let's face it, who wants to stand outside to order food in the winter? At a restaurant, Higdon can serve his delectable dishes all year long in a comfortable environment.

The Kentucky Taco Company’s first location will be at 1832 Frankfort Avenue near the Hilltop Tavern and Guestroom Records. Though Higdon and his crew aren’t planning to open their doors until August, you can check out their Kickstarter campaign for more information on this new local business, how you can make a donation and to catch a glimpse of their new menu. If you want to get updates as they happen, be sure to follow them on TwitterInstagram and Facebook
