The Alley Theater will return a favorite to its stage when “King John” takes place starting tonight.

“King John” will go on Sept. 10-12 and 17-19 at 7:30 p.m. each night. All performances are to happen at The Alley Theater, located at 633 West Main Street in downtown Louisville.

Tickets for each show are $15 for adults and $12 for seniors, students and military members. All tickets can be purchased at The Alley Theater website.

A Shakespearean tragedy, “King John” focuses on a man caught up in the power and having to deal with issues related to this power at the end of the Middle Ages. The King of France, believing the rightful heir to the English throne is King John’s nephew, has sent a messenger to King John in England to demand he step down. When John refuses, the two sides go to war, leading to many casualties.

The Alley Theater adds an extra dimension to the Shakespearean tale thanks to performing without costumes, sets or props. Five actors, a bare stage and the audience member’s imaginations are all that will be required for this production.

Sterling Pratt directed the production, which features Pratt, Francis Whitaker, Dennis Grinar, Jennifer Riddle and John C. Collins.

The Alley Theater is returning “King John” to its stage after a successful run in March 2014.

Following “King John,” The Alley Theater will present “The War of the Worlds Radio Show.” That show will begin Sept. 24. More information on both shows can be found at The Alley Theater website.
