    Live Music Lou’s Can’t Miss: August 23-29
    Print this page

This is a pretty balanced week of shows, building up to a pretty heavy Saturday. WFPK’s first ever Artist in Residency, MoonTower Fest and the inaugural CARDS Fest are all highly-anticipated events that we’re really looking forward to. For location, time and cost, click on the links for each event. Be sure to check back at livemusiclou.com after for our full reviews!

    Sunday (8/23) -

The Psychedelic Furs & The Church

This will not be a typical Sunday night. The English rock band is coming to town with Aussies, The Church. These two legendary bands will light up the Mercury Ballroom.

    Wednesday (8/26) -

Waterfront Wednesday with Anderson East, Maia Sharp and Twin Limb

We’ve got two more Waterfront Wednesdays left in the season and this one is set to be a pretty special one. WFPK has started the new “Artist in Residency” and this month’s WW performer is the first of its kind - Anderson East will be playing multiple shows in Kentuckiana next week. The Wednesday set kicks off his multiple day stay here, followed by Live Lunch in the studio Friday and finishing with a Bicentennial Park Summer Concert Series set. Joining Anderson East for Wednesday’s show are Maia Sharp, a Cali songstress, and the buzz-worthy Louisville band, Twin Limb.

    Adia Victoria

Adia Victoria’s distinct voice and certain southern comfort that is certainly mysterious and intriguing - just listening to some of her stuff on Soundcloud, and I want to know more. If you’ve got the stamina, this can be a perfect Waterfront Wednesday after party.

    Thursday (8/27) -

Steep Canyon Rangers with Hog Operation

The bluegrass supergroup, Steep Canyon Rangers, will be in town for a night of good times and the highest quality picking. This quintet (made sextet when Steve Martin joins them) will be releasing their latest album, Radio, the day after this Headliners show, so we expect this to be a memorable evening.

    Friday (8/28) -

Bicentennial Park Summer Concert Series with Anderson East with Brooks Ritter

The final event of WFPK’s first ever artist in residency will have Anderson East performing at the Bicentennial Park Summer Concert Series. We haven’t made it out to New Albany yet for this summer long string of shows, but this is one that we most definitely won’t miss.

    Saturday (9/29) -

    MoonTower Music Festival

We’re super hyped for this year two festival in Lexington. With bands like Moon Taxi, The Weeks, Apache Relay, Ben Sollee and J Roddy and The Business it is hard not to be pumped for this one right down the road. Each of these acts are known for their epic live performances, so expect to be wowed all day long. We’ll be covering the fest all day Saturday, so make sure to say hey if you’re there, too!

    CARDS Fest

As excited as we are for MoonTower, we are that sad about missing the inaugural CARDS Fest. Our dear friend Jecorey Arthur, aka 1200, and his friends at Cardshirt Co. have put together a great single day fest that will highlight local talent and get U of L students and Louisville residents ready for the beginning of a new school year.

    The Delta Saints

Saturday is a crazy busy day of shows, and this Zanzabar set needs to be on your radar. Another band formed during their days at Belmont University in Nashville, this blues-y, Americana group has been touring supporting their latest album, Bones.

Butchertown Get Down: Fight Club with Matt Anthony
