    Live Music Lou’s Can’t Miss: August 30-September 5
    Print this page

The week appears to be a chill one in terms of music, at least until the weekend, but there are certainly some cool Louisville events that you can't miss. It is a SERIOUS treat for Peter Sagal and crew to be in town taping Wait Wait…and we’ve got another Flea Off Market to look forward to over the weekend. For location, time and cost, click on the links for each event. Be sure to check back at livemusiclou.com after for our full reviews!

    Monday (8/31) -

    Vinyl Night

This edition of Monday’s recurring Haymarket Vinyl Night will include a MASSIVE give away from Magnetic Tape Recorder. And, as always, free pizza at 10pm and whatever vinyl you want to hear.

The Way Down Wanderers with The Moonlight Peddlers

This Chicago 5-piece folk band are making a stop at the The New Vintage. Their sound is fast-paced and instinctual, not to mention that it also looks like a lot of fun.

    Tuesday (9/1) -

    Swervedriver with Gateway Drugs

Swervedriver, the English alt-rock band, has a new album, I Wasn’t Born to Lose You, that they are on the road supporting. WFPK has been talking about this show a lot over the last few weeks. Whenever that happens, you know it's going to be a good one.

    Thursday (9/3) -

    Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me

The Chicago based game-show-comedy-podcast featuring panels of some of the wittiest minds will be recorded in Whitney Hall. Peter Sagal and crew will make this an eventful evening no doubt, and everyone in Louisville should take full advantage of this special event.

Left Lane Cruiser, Chigger, Satellite Twin

Left Lane Cruiser, a band from Aubrey’s hometown of Fort Wayne, IN, are heading south.  They’ve got a new album, Dirty Spliff Blues, which truly highlights their southern, bluesy sound they have become known for.

    Def Leppard, Styx and Tesla

The KFC Yum! Center plays host to some legendary rock bands. It’s a treat to have Styx return again after just having been here last year. For all of the classic rock lovers out there, this one’s a can’t miss for sure.

    Friday (9/4) -

    World Fest

This city of Louisville sponsored event sets out to highlight the many cultures of our city. Enjoy worldly cuisine, music and arts down at The Belvedere all weekend this Labor Day.

By The Grace of God, Twin Limb, Aphids

Our lady crushes are getting Labor Day weekend off on the right foot by playing what will be a kickass show at The New Vintage. They’re joined by another set Louisville locals By the Grace of God who have been on tour throughout Europe this summer. As far as we can tell, this is only one of three US shows that the band is putting on (the other two are in Philly and NYC), so don’t miss out on these guys.

    Saturday (9/5) -

Butchertown Get Down: Glitter with Dwight Johnson

Each week this movie slash dance party at PLAY is getting bigger. If you haven’t checked it out yet, why not do it this weekend?

    Outsized Influence Festival

This year-two festival is set to impress and showcase bands with Bellarmine University connections. There will be a little bit of everything on display, from The Foxery to Carly Johnson to The Hart Strings to Kogan Dumb. This free event is held on campus - people have been talking about it, so this should be one to catch.

Three Points Block Party with 1200

Pretty much anything with 1200’s named attached has been hugely successful these days. This free fundraising event supports Three Points, a community group looking to make the area between Shelby Park, Germantown and Schnitzleberg a better place to be through art.

    Mac Sabbath

This is quite possibly the strangest yet most satisfying combination of all time - a Black Sabbath tribute band who dresses up as McDonald’s characters. Yes, McDonald’s, that fast food restaurant that is such a guilty pleasure, but you can never get enough. We anticipate that Zbar will be packed for this one.
