    Live Music Lou's Can't Miss: May 24-30
    Print this page

The long weekend will get your week started in the right direction- it is totally worth it to take advantage of all that is going on in Louisville this week. For location, time and cost, click on the link for each event. Check back at livemusiclou.com after the events for our full reviews.

    Sunday (5/24) –

    Boomtown Ball and Festival

Mayor Jeff Gahan and the city of New Albany, along with 91.9 WFPK Radio Louisville present this all day event in downtown New Albany. Houndmouth, who has roots across the river, has curated the day’s lineup of music with some of their good friends Langhorne Slim, The Features, and Apache Relay, as well as locals Lydia Burrell, Big Big, Jalin Roze and Lazy Sunday.  Last year’s event was a huge success, but with this lineup, we think this year will top it.

    Wednesday (5/27) –

Waterfront Wednesday with Civil Twilight, Jukebox the Ghost and Small Time Napoleon

May’s Waterfront Wednesday will likely be another record setting extravaganza.  South Africa’s Civil Twilight will headline, with support from Jukebox the Ghost (which is headed by Louisville born Ben Thornewill) and Small Time Napoleon, whose status has definitely been on rise here in town.

    Thursday (5/28) –

    St. Vincent with Sarah Neufield

St. Vincent is known for her experimental sound and guarded ways. Fans will get a glimpse at this very mysterious artist at the ornate yet intimate Brown Theater.  Sarah Neufield, of Arcade Fire, opens the night.

    Steelism

Steelism has set themselves apart by being an instrumental band.  Spencer Cullum Jr. is brilliant on the pedal steel, bringing to life Southern country classics.

    Friday (5/29) –

    Earth, Wind & Fire

The Palace plays host to this illustrious multi-faceted band.  It is hard not to be through the roof excited about Earth, Wind & Fire coming to town.

Hurray for the Riff Raff with Juan Wauters

Hurray for the Riff Raff is an Americana folk band that does more than play music.  Alynda Lee Segarra and crew use their music and performances to speak towards things important to them.

    Whitehorse with Lindy Vopnfjord

There is clearly a palpable and very compelling chemistry between the husband and wife duo of Whitehorse.  Their setup will be very simple but what they do is not- be ready to be wowed with all that the two pull off during their set.

    Saturday (5/30) –

    Seven Sense Festival Fundraiser

The Seven Sense Festival is not until August, but in preparation and as a little fundraising push, Zanzabar and The New Vintage will play host to a slew of local bands.  We’re looking forward to catching Quiet Hollers, Black Birds of Paradise, and Tall Squares.  $10 gets you into both venues and the opportunity to catch 6 bands.
