With the summer heat finally starting to retreat, now's a great time to sign up for cozier outdoor activities. In Louisville, road races abound, so here are some September races to keep you moving, with one longer race for the more hardcore.
The 26th annual Pioneer 5k Run/Walk
For the last 11 years, the Pioneer 5k has associated with Louisville's Links for Life, an organization that raises money to fight breast cancer though education and research, and has become a Labor Day tradition in Louisville. This year's Pioneer 5k happens at Seneca Park on September 4, 2010. It's become known for great door prizes, including dinner gift certificates, and much more. Registration is $20 before September 1, and $25 after.
Gaslight Festival 5k Run/Walk
On September 14th, 2010 at 7:00 p.m., run or walk the 23rd Jeffersontown Gaslight Festival 5k. The Gaslight Festival has become one of the biggest and best-attended events in J-town, and it's sure to be a great time, especially with the fun, evening run/walk. Early registration has ended, but you can register between now and September 9th for $20. Prizes will be awarded to the top male and female finishers, and to the top three finishers in each age group. Plus, each entrant is eligible to enter a drawing at the conclusion of the festival for hundreds of dollars worth of athletic equipment.
Downtown Doubler 15k/30k
If you're looking for a break from the 5k, run the Downtown Doubler 15k/30k on Sunday, September 19, 2010. It's a Downtown Louisville loop that you can do once, or twice if you're challenge hungry. If you're training for a marathon later this year, this may be the perfect race for you. Early registration is $35, and the first 400 entrants get a long-sleeve race shirt. If you're not up for the run or are recovering from injury, they're also looking for water stop volunteers.
