    • "For the families of Lloyd Hammond's three murder victims, a Jefferson Circuit Court jury's recommendation Tuesday that he spend the rest of his life in prison was a welcome ending to a difficult four years. 'God has the last word,' said Marchell Williams, an aunt of Kerry Williams, 26, who was shot and killed by Hammond in June 2006. 'This means closure for my family.'" [Courier-Journal]
    • "An annual obesity report by two public health groups includes more bad news -- obesity rates increased in 28 states last year -- and also a new survey of parental attitudes about the issue. The survey shows an increasing awareness of obesity and its threat to public health, though that knowledge has yet to translate into results. Last year, four states -- Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee and West Virginia -- had obesity rates of over 30 percent. This year, four more states have that distinction, bringing the total to eight states with rates over 30 percent. Those states were Louisiana, Kentucky, Oklahoma and Arkansas." [Courier-Journal]
    • "Tim Scott was snapping cellphone pictures of a wild black bear in Kentucky when it attacked him: "The bear had a really good chunk of my leg in his mouth and was shaking me." The animal is now being hunted...The attack was the first ever in Kentucky, however the state Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources has set up traps and will kill the bear for acting like a wild animal in a protected wildlife area. Makes sense." [Gawker]
