    Louisville Water Company posted this letter to its customers on its website, which it asked us to share with you:

    This has been a challenging few days for Louisville Water Company and many of our customers. On Monday, we experienced one of the largest breaks in our company’s 150-year history when a 48-inch transmission main along Eastern Parkway suddenly failed, affecting around 25,000 LWC customers, or 75,000 people. And to make matters worse, it happened on one of the hottest days of the year.
    As this community has shown time and again, there are many who step up to help during a time of crisis. We want to express our gratitude to Kroger for its generous donation of bottled water. Over 30,000 bottles of water were supplied to those affected by the incident. Thanks as well to Equipment Depot for helping deliver the bottled water, and of course to UofL for all its help and providing the use of Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium for a staging area. And we would be remiss if we didn’t thank our own employees and local emergency responders who worked so quickly and effectively in those first critical hours after the rupture.

    We also appreciate the support of Mayor Greg Fischer, who said: “Although the water main break was a major inconvenience to people and businesses, employees of the Louisville Water Company showed true leadership. They quickly tackled the problem and restored most service within a few hours.”

    Next Steps

    We are now working on repairs. Depending on the scope, the work may take up to three weeks. We had to remove part of the earthen/concrete embankment that sits atop the main and leads up to the Eastern Parkway overpass. Once our repairs are complete, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will restore the area.

We are already reviewing our procedures to make certain that we are doing everything we can to minimize the risk of future breaks and to ensure that you continue to receive an uninterrupted supply of Pure Tap® to your business and your home.

    Well good. Now that this issue is resolved, hopefully Louisville Water Company will start being able to draft account holders' bank accounts for payments so I don't have to manually cut a check each quarter like it's 19-dickety-2.
