It has been a long road for Kentucky native, Sturgill Simpson. In 2005 he quit music, leaving his band Sunday Valley, to get a railroad job to help pay his bills and support his family. During that time, Simpson knew singing was what he really wanted to do and in 2013 his wife urged him to give his passion for music a go one more time.  That gamble paid off.  In 2014, he followed his first solo album, "High Top Mountain" with the album that truly launched his career, "Metamodern Sounds of Country Music."

Simpson toured nonstop, to promote "Metamodern Sounds of Country Music" and made his first Kentucky appearance since going solo at Mercury Ballroom in January of 2015.  He returned to Kentucky where in 2015 and put on one of the best shows at Forecastle Festival. Since then, Simpson released "A Sailor's Guide to Earth" in April, which debuted at number 3 on Billboard's top 200.

Last night, Simpson returned to his home state, this time selling  out the Palace: an amazing feat for a guy who almost gave up on music.
