    On New Year's Eve, the Monkey Wrench will have a whole new menu. Dennie Humphrey, owner of the Monkey Wrench, is teaming up with Lil Cheezers' Matt Davis and Stellar Craft Catering's Bret Donaldson to offer The Monkey's Uncle Grill, which will serve favorites from the Lil' Cheezers menu, along with Davis' takes on some traditional pub fare. The Monkey's Uncle Grill will open on New Year's Eve  at the Monkey Wrench and the weekend following with a limited menu, which will expand over the first four weeks of January. 

    In 2013, Dustin Staggers revitalized the Monkey Wrench's menu into a "contemporary Hillbilly" experience that brought the critics, and lots of people, to the restaurant and bar. After the Lono Lounge menu was added to the rooftop bar in the Wrench, Staggers left to run his new restaurant Roux, and quickly followed that up with his collaboration with Griffin Paulin, Rumplings. In the meantime, a smaller version of Staggers' menu was served at Monkey Wrench. No more, come New Year's Eve. But there are no hard feelings from Staggers, who says, "I'm happy for Dennie. I really want to see that place succeed. He's a great guy."

    According to the press release, Humphrey feels that the new menu will better suite the growing needs of the Monkey Wrench. “Louisville is becoming a true foodie town,” said Humphreys. “The Monkey Wrench has always served food and within the last year, we’ve become known for having really great food. But we’re more relaxed than what it’s been. We love being in the Highlands neighborhood, offering affordable food and a casual lounge atmosphere. We need to get back to that. We’re still going to be the same great venue for live performances, game watch parties, concerts, but now with the food to match it.” 

    This will be an excellent opportunity to Lil' Cheezers as well, since the brick-and-mortar they attempted in 2013 (sadly!) was not sustainable at the time. There's no word if Lil' Cheezers, like Grind, would consider giving up the food truckin' once a stationary location is up and running, but let's hope not. Items on the menu will cost from $6 - $14. The Monkey's Uncle Grill will be open Tuesday and Wednesday 4 p.m. - 10 p.m. or later, Thursday - Saturday 4 p.m. - midnight or later, and a Sunday brunch (hooray!) will be offered 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
