Thursday marked night one of My Morning Jacket’s two day, sold out, hometown shows at Iroquois Amphitheater. The stage, covered in fresh flowers and MMJ staples (including the emphasis bear), didn’t feel like a stage. It invited the crowd into a more personal space, one that wasn’t musicians and crowd. It felt like a homecoming for a friend that had been abroad. While Jim James didn’t verbally engage it was understood he didn’t have to.  He already knows Louisville and why the shows sold out. In turn Louisville knows My Morning Jacket and why these hometown shows are so important. They’re what we wait for outside of Forecastle sets.

Speaking of sets, Thursday night’s set list was a chill mix of classics, throwbacks, newer jams, and a cover of Prince’s, “Purple Rain.” That’s right; Twin Limb joined the stage to end the set by paying tribute to a music legend. It was definitely a warm up for what would come at Friday night's sold-out show. Check out photos from the show below!
