    Herman Cain

Harman Cain 1129a.jpgPoor Herman Cain.  He came this close (gesturing with thumb and forefinger in near proximity) to getting the Republican nomination for the presidency.  But it looks like he met his Waterloo, as it were, right here in Louisville, when he fell for the charms of a local woman.  In what may prove to be the caboose on Cain’s trainwreck of a campaign, a woman named Ginger White has come forward with allegations that she and the former head of Godfather’s Pizza conducted a lengthy amorous affair for more than a decade.

Admitting that she knew all along that Cain was married, White, 46, told of how the prominent businessman bought her plane tickets for a rendezvous in Palm Springs, California:  "It was fun.  It was something that took me away from my sort of humdrum life at the time. And it was exciting."

Harman Cain 1129c.jpgWhite claims to have met Cain in the late 1990s, when he gave a presentation here in Louisville, while he was president of the National Restaurant Association.  She said the two of them had drinks together afterward and later went to his hotel room.   She further claims that she and Cain had a 13-year romantic relationship, and that he had occasionally helped her in the past with rent money.

Ginger White.jpgAtlanta’s FOX 5 television reports that White filed a sexual harassment claim against a former employer in 2001, a case that was later settled. She also reportedly filed for bankruptcy more than 20 years ago in Kentucky.  White told FOX 5 that she is currently living in an apartment in Dunwoody, near Atlanta, and is an unemployed single mother of two who is struggling to make ends meet.  Records of Louisville’s Ballard High School show that a Ginger White—now aged 46—graduated in the class of 1983.

Herman should have known that Kentucky is famous for beautiful horses and fast women.  Lexington got dibs on the horses, and Louisville ended up with everything else.  To Derby City’s listing of femmes fatale—which includes Karen Sypher (avec Rick Pitino), and Georgia Davis Powers (avec Dr. Martin Luther King)—we can now add Ginger White.  Heck, even the saintly Fr. Thomas Merton got himself seduced by a Louisville nurse he met at Fourth and Walnut Streets.

Cain’s flacks claim he is now “reassessing” his campaign for the presidency, while the candidate issued the standard non-denial denial to CNN:  "Here we go again.  I didn't do anything wrong."  And the Washington Post reports that Cain will likely make a decision on whether to continue his campaign by the end of the week.

We’re not sure whether Louisville’s growing reputation for fast women will make future presidential candidates shy of visiting our fair city.  Hell, it might well have just the opposite effect.  Cherchez la femme…
