Peter Hook is a music legend.  He is a man of infinite credibility in the music industry, has been playing for over 4 decades, and been a founder of not one, but two endlessly influential bands in that time frame…post-punk goth-rockers Joy Division and early 80’s new wave pioneers New Order.

Hook was born in Broughton, Salford England in 1956.  The product of divorced parents he spent much of his early childhood raised by his grandmother – before his mother re-married a man from whom young Peter adopted the last name of.

In 1976, after attending a Sex Pistols show with childhood friend Bernard Sumner – the next day he borrow money from his mother and bought himself a bass…this was the birth of Joy Division.  Fronted by the legendary singer Ian Curtis, the band wrote two albums (“Unknown Pleasures” and “Closer”) filled with suicide references, star-crossed love affairs, and generally morbid imagery.

Two months before the release of “Closer”, only hours after a Joy Division concert, the tortured and self-destructive singer hung himself in his parent’s home.

Hook and Sumner reunited a year later forming and releasing the debut album from their new band, taking a new musical direction with New Order.  The band has continued to tour and release new music ever since with various line-up changes and sporadic hiatuses.

Peter Hook’s latest tour is called “The Light:  Unknown Pleasures & Closer.”  He will performing both albums by Joy Division in their entirety, he will also be pulling double duty as his own opening act when he performs a set of New Order’s greatest hits.

Peter Hook’s “The Light:  Unknown Pleasures & Closer” will stop in Louisville at Headliners Music Hall, Wednesday April 29th – tickets are $20 and the show begins at 8:00 PM.

Tomorrow night will be a full night of this music legend’s most loved songs from both of his legendary bands.

    About Brent Owen

Born and raised in Louisville, I have lived here most of my life (except during a short furlough, when I, lovelorn and naive, followed a girl to Baton Rouge). My roots are here, my family, my friends, and my life are all here. I work primarily as a free-lance writer for a few local and regional publications. I have also written two books (one a memoir, the other a novel) that barring some divine intervention, will probably never see the light of day. I find myself deeply ingrained in the local bar scene, or perhaps better said, I often indulge in the local drinking culture. I love music, movies, comedy, and really just about any other live performance art.
