It’s that time of year again -

    Open Studio Weekend

is upon us. If you’re an aficionado of Louisville’s amazing local arts scene, then this is something you won’t want to miss - a first-hand sneak peek into the working worlds of some of your favorite local artists. One of the highlights of this year’s studio weekend is

    Revelry Gallery’s

    new show

    Uncertain Seasons

by Louisville artist Julio Cesar Rodriguez Aguilar.

    The Lover

Born in Cuba in 1976, Aguilar worked towards becoming an artist from an early age. He has taught art in Cuba, and has been exhibited all over the world - his talent is astounding, and two years ago he moved to Louisville - we're lucky to have him.

    The Soul After The Rain

Painting with oil on canvas, Aguilar’s figures are bizarre and dreamlike, expressionist and subjectively framed. They depict a world of the artist’s thoughts and emotions, and leave open to interpretation their perspective and motive.  The show itself is described as being a “year long creative journey, exploring the physical and conceptual relationship between humanity and nature.

    C

The four paintings I’ve previewed show just that. Whether it be the heady freshness of The Soul After The Rain or the somber detachment and poseable figure like markings of the subject in C, Aguilar’s work shows us how we as individuals are changed and marked by not only others, but by the entirety of our world. We are inseparable - a concept that rings out loud and clear in his work.

If you would like to attend

    the opening

    of

    Uncertain Seasons

at Revelry Gallery, it’s free and open to the public. The show opens Saturday, September 13th at 7 p.m. and will run through October 9th. Revelry is located at 742 East Market Street.
