Rooibee Red Tea is a Louisville original that can be found all over Possibility City. For those who don’t know, Rooibee Red Tea Co is the only company bottling certified USDA organic rooibos tea with products available for both adults and kids. There are five tea flavors available in the Rooibee Red line: Watermelon Mint, Cranberry Pomegranate, Peach, Vanilla Chai, and Unsweetened. For the kids, there’s the Rooibee Roo Tea with mango, cherry, and orange flavors.
What is rooibos tea anyway? And why drink it? Rooibee Red says on their site, “Though others have tried, there is only one place in the world to grow rooibos: the Western Cape of South Africa. Pronounced roy-bos in their native Afrikaans language, rooibos translates to “red bush.” This is the secret to what the rest of the world calls “red tea.”” Rooibos tea naturally contains no caffeine and, unlike black and green tea, has no tannins or bitter flavors. It also contains high amounts of two different antioxidants.
It seems Martha Stewart picked up on how awesome Kentucky Proud Rooibee Red Tea is – they’ve been nominated for the Martha Stewart American Made Awards! (Yes, Martha Stewart awards are a thing – I checked.) The American Made awards are combined effort of Martha Stewart herself and the editors of Martha Stewart Living to spotlight the next generation of great American makers: entrepreneurs, artisans, and small business owners making a difference. Makers, small-business owners, and creative entrepreneurs are judged in the following categories: crafts, design, food, and style….and judge’s choice.
So Louisville’s own Rooibee Red Tea is a current nominee AND needs our help/votes! Martha’s folks have made it so that the more social shares on Facebook and Twitter, the more likely the maker (in this case, Rooibee Red) will become one of their 200 “Wild-Card” finalist spots for grand-prize consideration. Also, if you haven’t tried their tea yet, do. It tastes great and is good for you.
