“Honorable”, “loyal”, and “selfless” are words commonly associated with the men and women who have donned the uniform of our nation’s military. The Coalition for the Homeless, along with a number of other local agencies, is spearheading a campaign to eliminate the words “homeless” and “desperate” from that hallowed lexicon.

The Rx: Housing Veterans initiative is a bold and ambitious plan to end veteran homelessness in Louisville by 2016. As a member of the national Zero: 2016 campaign, Louisville is one of  25 cities who have made it their mission to complete this goal. The Rx: Housing Veterans program will aim to assist veterans in obtaining stable housing, employment, and any necessary substance abuse counseling.

The Coalition for the Homeless has identified 360 homeless veterans living in our community, and has already succeeded in providing housing for 100 of those veterans. In order to reach their goal, Rx: Housing Veterans only needs to raise another $50,000. Donations may be made on the Coalition’s website.

This Derby season let’s help Louisville earn the distinction of having proudly given back to those who have served our country with honor.
