The Bob Rodgers Group, a local indie film production company, has released the selections for the upcoming Derby City Film Festival being held February 18th-20th, 2011. Created by filmmaker Kris Rommel the festival is in its third year, expanding and showcasing the tales of independent filmmakers not just from Kentucky but New York, California, Georgia, Illinois, and Oregon and even outside the U.S. from locales such as Switzerland, Poland, Russia, and Canada.

“While this year’s festival is a great moment to showcase the talent right here in Kentucky, we also want to remind everyone that we are an international festival. In addition we are screening 25 films from international filmmakers and numerous films from other parts of the country as well. It’s a great showcase of independent film in general.”

The Fest kicks off at 8pm Friday, February 18th, 2011 with the Georgetown filmmaker Michael Crisp’s film, ““The Very Worst Thing” about the bus crash that took place in Floyd County, Kentucky in 1958. Preceding the debut film at 6pm is a collection of 8 “shorts,” or short films. The Fest wraps up on Sunday night with the feature film “Hitting the Nuts” from Cincinnati filmmaker Joe Boyd.

Going to see the films is not the only reason to check out the Fest. There will be workshops on Writing for the Screen, Green Screen Techniques, Acting, and FX Make-Up.

Also included are Q&A panels with the various filmmakers.
