Louisville saw Seven Sense Festival and Louisville Outskirts Festival added to the long list of Louisville festivals last year and both went over with very positive results. They will both be back in 2015 and you can get a little taste of what each event is like if you attend the fundraising concerts.

Louisville Outskirts Festival seeks to support, inspire, and highlight the music made by women of Louisville’s independent music scene as well as showcase influential and inspiring musicians selected from other parts of the country and world. The inspiring part of the festival occurs in their rockshops, musical work shops for girls where they can creatively form bands and perform original music.

Outskirts has yet to announce its 2015 dates but you can join them on June 5 at Tim Faulkner Gallery for an extraordinary show. A collection of some of Louisville’s finest musicians will be performing a Heart tribute show. Singer Carly Johnson, who curated the concert, will also be joined on vocals by Natalie Felker (The Fervor), Cheyenne Mize (Maiden Radio), Tari O’Bannon (Antman, Grayson Hall) and Sarah Teeple (The Ladybirds). Special guest Brooks Ritter will being joining Carly Johnson for a duet and singer/songwriter Tyrone Cotton will be opening up the show with his own take on some classic Heart tunes. Tickets can be purchased at McQuixote Coffee and Books and Matt Anthony’s Record Shop.

Seven Sense Festival is essentially a huge block party. When local music venue The New Vintage opened in May 2013, its owners were already considering the idea of a block party. The area was prime for one and it made sense with another music venue, Zanzabar, so close. In 2014, the block party became a reality in Seven Sense Festival with three stages, local and regional bands, and a spectacular selection of local brews and food. The festival even lasted into the night inside the two nearby venues. Seven Sense is a benefit for Boys & Girls Haven. This year's Seven Sense will take place on August 22.

As they did last year, Seven Sense will be having fundraisers for the festival. The first one for this year’s event will be May 30 at both The New Vintage and Zanzabar. One $10 ticket will let you see six bands in total that are playing at Zanzabar and The New Vintage that night. Quiet Hollers, Black Birds of Paradise, Adventure, Brother Wolves, Tall Squares, and The Bottom Sop will be featured.
