The African-American Theatre Program at the University of Louisville will be Shakin' the Mess Outta Misery beginning tomorrow.

Shakin' the Mess Outta Misery will go on Sept. 26-30 at 8 p.m. each night.  A matinee will also occur on Sept. 30 at 3 p.m. All performances are to happen at the Thrust Theatre, located on the U of L campus at 2314 S. Floyd Street (corner of Warnock and Floyd diagonal from the McDonalds).

Tickets for each show are $15 for adults, $10 for students, and $10 for senior citizens.  All tickets can be purchased at the door or at the U of L box office.  More information on how to purchase tickets can be found at the U of L theatre arts website.

Shakin the Mess Outta Misery focuses on an orphaned girl and the women of a neighborhood who helped to raise her in the 1950s South.  The women help her grow up to handle the world, teaching her valuable life lessons along the way.

The story is told with added spirituals and blues in tribute to Glenda Dickerson, one of the first African-American women to direct a Broadway play.  Dickerson passed away earlier this year.

Shay Youngblood created Shakin the Mess Outta Misery, and she will be available for a talk back following the Sept. 28 performance.

Lundeana M. Thomas directed the production for the African-American Theatre Program, and the cast includes Jody Ann Henry, Lisa Banks, Iva-Kristi Papailler ,Renea S. Brown, Takayla Williams, Tia Davis, Phoenix Jenkins, Andeja Tyler, and Chavon Lewis.

More information on the show can be found at the U of L theatre arts website.
