For outdoor folks, 2015 has been a rough way to start the New Year. On Wednesday night (March 4), just as we were finally drying out our boots from the last snow storm, a massive new system took dead aim at the state and dumped over a foot of snow in some areas. But for some, the fresh powder wasn’t a curse for their winter cabin fever but rather an opportunity!

Last night,  as I made my way through downtown Louisville to document the snowfall, I came across Christian Lodsdon (Pictured in blue) and Nathan Goldstein (in yellow) at the Louisville Extreme Park. Equipped with snow shovels, snowboards, skies, and what appeared to be a car hood, the two were at work packing in the snow creating makeshift slopes.

Nathan, who says he’s been skiing about 10-14 years and also skateboards, attempts to pack snow to create a starting point for his ski run.

Chris attempts to slide down the “hubba” ledge at the Louisville Extreme Skatepark. Chris says that both he and Nathan typically go to Paoli Peaks in Paoli, Indiana to ski and snowboard, but he also skateboards and rides BMX.

After riding the skate park for a while, the two adventured to the Yum! Center to look for staircases to ski and board down. However, the well-maintained site had mostly been cleared of snow for foot traffic.

Still determined to take advantage of the snowstorm, Chris and Nathan then made their way to a playground a top of an artificial hill with a rail going down it next to the Big Four Bridge.

I recently relocated to the fine city of Louisville. I love biking around the city, skateboarding, craft beer and exploring the hidden/forgetten gems of the city and state. Wu-tang forever.
