Song of the Week: 'kill U'

Brenda is the kind of band you want to play at your house party; a house party you trash while you get trashed. The Germantown four-piece bangs out a sound that bounces somewhere between garage rock and indie pop. It’s simple, loud, and F-U-N. Their self-titled EP released last July after a 24-hour recording marathon. According to the band’s stylized bio the five tracks “deliver an articulate expression of all that is GOOD about love - fun, sex, infatuation, plastic - and SALTY about heartbreak - tears, P I Z Z A, depravity, plastic, chocolate covered pretzels.”  If that doesn’t sum up the groups trendy junk food energy, I don’t know what does.

Brenda rocks fuzzy guitar riffs, big bass lines, and a standard drum kit with the addition of a second bass drum and snare. The percussion side of things is what makes Brenda, Brenda. At a show they’re the ones you find yourself waiting to get another drink for. You don’t want to miss anything.

“kill u” encapsulates the feel of what Brenda is like live. The darker sinister guitar wails alongside thunderous drums and complimented by an overlay of catchy lyrics that invoke deeper, relatable emotion. The song was also included on Gubbey Records, “Head Cleaner Vol. 7, 8, 9, & 10, 11.”
