Monday night at Headliners, British indie band Daughter came to Louisville and showcased their one-of-a-kind sound to a sold-out crowd.

To start the night off, Australian band Vancouver Sleep Clinic illuminated the crowd as they opened for Daughter. With two keyboardists, two guitarists and a drummer, the five of them rocked their indie-inspired original songs with underlying electronic beats. The lead singer showed off his skills on the guitar and with his high-pitched vocals.

Once Vancouver Sleep Clinic exited the stage, the crowd patiently awaited their headliner, and the second Daughter took the stage, they captured the room. Amid the bright lights, they lit up the room with their unique alt-indie music. Most of the British trio’s songs start mellow, dreamily crooning of emotional investment, but lead up to epic drum solos that make your heart race. Daughter’s is the kind of music you’d want to hear in the middle of a break-up, or while riding in the car alone with all the windows down. Their songs might not make the crowd jump, dance or scream, but they absolutely know how to keep a crowd invested with smooth melodies and songs filled with meaning.  They dominated the room with the melody of their instruments and whimsical vocals.

Vancouver Sleep Clinic and Daughter complimented each other perfectly with similar themes and underlying sounds. I spent the night captured by the unique sounds and vocals that entranced Headliners. The next time I need to feel deep emotional release, I will definitely be listening to both Daughter and Vancouver Sleep Clinic.
