You’ve probably been in this situation before. You’re moving but you don’t want to take everything with you so you decide to have a yard sale. When you’re StageOne Family Theatre, it means you have 25,000 square feet of costumes, tools and props that you can unleash on the buying public.
On Monday, May 19 and continuing until that Wednesday, you’ll get a chance to go through several decades worth of stuff starting at 9am each day at their former production studio at 1237 South 11th Street. You have to go in through the back of the building near the train tracks.
If you think about it, other theaters could find bargains, whether it’s a school production or one for a church. Photographers and cinematographers might find just the right prop in the various products as well. What does it hurt to look?
StageOne has a Flickr page set up to browse through before you get there. Take a look. You might see an item you didn’t even know you needed. Perhaps you can think of a use for that enormous table saw? Or those prop red, green and blue cars that look like they might have been steroid injected Soapbox Derby jalopies. You can check for those and more here.
At it’s heart, StageOne produces diverse and affordable entertainment while at the same time educating Louisville youth about the arts. To know that they’re upgrading to a new space is a signal that the arts still mean something in this community and that whatever that something is will continue to be nurtured.
