October is a time to indulge in horror and explore haunted places. And while ghosts and slasher films are always on everyone’s agendas during this time of year, the really spooky thrills come from examining something or someone less known, but just as creepy.

Just a two-hour drive out of Louisville is Hopkinsville, Kentucky. And something that often flies under the radar about this small place is the fact that it's the hometown of one of the world’s most famous and oddly convincing psychics of all time, Edgar Cayce.

Born in 1877, Cayce became known for his strange psychic abilities at an early age, when he began falling into inexplicable trances under which he made descriptive predictions and even revealed advanced medical knowledge before the age of modern medicine. Among Cayce’s most famous predictions were both world wars and the very date of his own death, all of which he predicted decades before each occurred.

Today, the Museum of Historic Hopkinsville holds several original records of the psychic’s predictions and readings, and visitors of the city are invited to take the Edgar Cayce cell phone tour around Hopkinsville. This free tour consists of a list of important addresses that lead directly to several interesting destinations like the old Cayce family home, the location of his first psychic reading and his grave site.

To learn more about this famous Kentuckian, visit the official Edgar Cayce website and the Museum of Historic Hopkinsville.
