Summer camp options abound in the Louisville area. So no matter what your child is interested in, there's sure to be a camp that fits the bill.
Looking for Lilith Theatre Company: June 11-15. Half-day sessions for grades 1-8. Younger students will participate in story dramas; older students will learn the basics of improv. All students will develop acting skills in voice, body and imagination. Cost: $150 for 1st student; $115 for siblings.
Encore Youth Theatre Camp: Ages 5-15. Two-week long sessions culminating in a musical theatre performance. Campers spend the mornings rotating in drama, music and dance classes. Afternoons are spent rehearsing for the show. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Honk! and You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown will be performed. Cost: $365
Walden Theatre Summer Academy: Ages 8-16. Three-week sessions from 9-3pm each weekday. June 4-Aug. 4. Cost: $495. One week art and imagination camps also available for students 5-11.
The Louisville Science Center: 11 weeks of camps for kids Pre-K through 8th grade. Various themes are offered, including LEGOs, Magic, Mythbusters and Zombies. Cost: from $200/week for non-members
The Louisville Zoo: Weeklong camps from June 4-Aug. 10. Grades 1-9. Cost and themes vary.
Louisville Nature Center: Nature study, hikes and hands-on learning via the Beargrass Creek Nature Preserve in Louisville. Scholarships are available for students ages 4-12. Cost: from $115 per week for non-members. Topics include Harry Potter, Bugs, Art and more.
Louisville Skating Academy’s Ice Skating Camp: For beginners ages 3-13. No skating experience necessary. June 18-22. Cost: $175
Kentucky Gymnastics Academy: half or full day programs for ages 4 & up. June 4-Aug. 17. Tumbling, Arts and Crafts, Gymnastics and open gym. Cost: $153 for 5 full days.
Challenger British Soccer Camp at YMCA: Various weeks throughout the summer for kids ages 3-16. Cost: $45-176 per week.
Hwang's Martial Arts Camp: June 4-Aug. 17. Drop off 7:30-9 am; Pick up 5-6 pm. Campers may register for multiple weeks. Four Louisville area locations. Taekwondo classes daily; Field trips every Tuesday and Thursday. Cost: from $129 per week; field trips require additional fees.
General/ Specialty Camps
Nature Camp at Historic Locust Grove: June 25-29 for students ages 6-12. Students will experience, hands-on, what life was like in the 18th century. Cost: $195
Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft-KidArt Camp: Half or full day sessions for students grades K-6. Camps run June 11-Aug. 3rd; one age group per week. Focus on Clay, Fiber, Printmaking and Graphic Arts. Cost: $100 half day, $200 full day (per week).
Frazier History Museum: Week-long camps, 9am-4pm, for kids grades 1-8, June, July, and Aug. 6-10. Cost: $185. Extended camp hours available for additional fee.
Metro Parks Community Center Camps: Offering 8 weeks of summer camps (June 4-July 27) at various community centers, 8am-6pm. Camps focus on fitness, the arts, the environment and education. Camp weekly fees range from $50-$95, plus a one-time $20 registration fee.
Jewish Community Center: Ages 20 months and up; offered most weeks from June 4-Aug. 10. Various themes include dance, horseback riding, sailing, basketball, theatre, art and more. Cost varies. Extended day available for additional fee.
