    The Kentucky Girl

Now that we are post-Thanksgiving and worn out from shopping, or I should say watching the children while the wife went shopping, we can revisit a 48 point victory over the Highlanders of Radford.  The Wildcats came out roaring against this opponent.  The Highlanders saw easier opponents before walking into Rupp, boasting an average 61 points per game.  The Cats kept the score on the opponents end to 40 overall while the Wildcats sailed with 88 for the contest.

All the fans seemed very happy to see Marquis Teague not only decreased the number of times he turned over the ball, but instigated steals of his own. Jones came alive with 17 points for the night while Kidd-Gilchrist added 15 points with 9 rebounds.  Radford kept fighting as Kentucky wouldn’t let up on the defensive end.  Cal kept the energy alive on the court with selective substitutions utilizing his six starters.  Kyle Wiltjer saw significant playing time and contributed with the offensive boards.  Davis seemed to calm down and begin to communicate with his team mates posting 12 points for the night.  Miller came off the bench and went straight to work, making it happen on both ends of the court, while Lamb broke the 3 point cold streak. Lamb finished the night with 10 points.

Radford struggled for the majority of the game; Johnathan Edward scored 10 points and 8 rebounds for the Highlanders.  UK’s defensive game was in tune and that hurt Radford, who frequently tried to drive inside.  A last minute shot by Jareal Smith saved the Highlanders from setting a new school record for the fewest points scored in a game, according to Radford University.

The Cats will host Portland Saturday at 7pm and then look forward to a rough two game stretch with St. John’s and then No. 1 UNC.  The game against Portland will be the final chance for the Cats to grow up before more seasoned opponents come to Rupp.
