The University of Louisville football team has its first bye week of the season this week and it couldn’t come at a better time.

The Cardinals got a little banged up in last week’s win over North Carolina State. Both senior linebacker Lorenzo Mauldin and sophomore wide receiver James Quick left Louisville’s 30-13 victory early due to injuries (Mauldin’s a hamstring and Quick’s an ankle). This week should give those two, as well anyone else who is dinged up, time to heal before UofL (6-2 overall, 4-2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference) hosts second-ranked Florida State and reigning Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston next Thursday (i.e. Halloween Eve) night at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium.

Even though the football team won’t be in action this weekend, several others UofL teams will be. Here’s a quick look at what there is to watch (or follow) in UofL sports this weekend:

    • The men’s soccer team (8-5-1, 4-2), which downed Evansville 3-0 Tuesday night, hosts Clemson in an ACC match at 7:30 p.m. Friday night at Lynn Stadium.

    • The seventh-ranked field hockey team (12-4) has a couple of non-conference matches this weekend. First the Cards host UC Davis at 6 p.m. Friday evening at Trager Stadium before playing at Indiana at 1 p.m. Sunday in Bloomington, Ind.

    • The men’s tennis team hosts the 2014 Louisville Fall Invitational, which begins Friday, at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.

    • The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams compete, along with Indiana and Texas, in a meet at Michigan that begins Friday.

    • The women’s soccer team (7-7-2, 3-3-2), which beat Pittsburgh 1-0 Thursday night on freshman Inger Katrine Bjerke penalty kick rebound goal in the 93rd minute, plays at Notre Dame at 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

    • The volleyball team (13-7, 5-3), which boasts the ACC Freshman of the Week in middle blocker Tess Clark as well as a three-match winning streak, plays at Pittsburgh at 2 p.m. Sunday.

    • The men’s basketball team will hold its second Red-White scrimmage at 2 p.m. Sunday at the KFC Yum! Center.
