And you thought last week’s victory by the University of Louisville football team was ugly. Well, it was nothing compared to the Cardinals’ 20-10 win over Wake Forest on Saturday.

UofL shook off three fumbles - one by freshman quarterback Reggie Bonnafon, who was making his first start, that was recovered in the end zone for a touchdown - and 11 penalties to top the Demon Deacons in an Atlantic Coast Conference game at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium.

Redshirt sophomore Brandon Radcliff rushed for 129 yards and two touchdowns - including the go-ahead score with 11:41 to play - and John Wallace hit a pair of fourth-quarter field goals to seal the win for Louisville (4-1, 2-1).

Despite some ball security issues Bonnafon still had a decent game, completing 16 of 32 passes for 206 yards and running for 46 more yards, starting in place of the injured Will Gardner. The real star of the game, though, was UofL’s defense. The Cards held Wake Forest (2-3, 0-1) to 100 yards of total offense while picking off three passes (including Gerod Holliman’s nation-leading sixth interception) and recording eight quarterback sacks (three by Lorenzo Mauldin).

Here’s what else happened in UofL sports over the weekend:

    • The 11th-ranked field hockey team edged No. 16, and host, Wake Forest 2-1 in overtime Friday night, before falling at unranked Liberty by the same score on Sunday. Elisa Garcia’s unassisted goal in the sixth minute of OT gave UofL its win over the Demon Deacons in an ACC match at Winston-Salem, N.C. However the Cards couldn’t carry that momentum over to Sunday, when they outshot the Lady Flames 18-5 and had a 9-2 edge in penalty corners, but only got one goal (by Alyssa Voelmle) in Lynchburg, Va. The Cards (8-2, 2-1) next host third-ranked Duke on Friday.

    • Ricardo Velazco tallied two goals and Shane Campbell added a goal and an assist to lead the eighth-ranked men’s soccer team to a 4-1 victory over visiting Pittsburgh on Friday night at Lynn Stadium. Daniel Keller chipped in with a goal and Ben Strong with an assist for UofL (5-1-1, 3-0-0), which won its fourth straight. The Cards next host Ohio State at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night.

    • The volleyball team lost its ACC opener in five sets to Boston College on Friday, but bounced back with a five-set win over visiting Georgia Tech in its second ACC match on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles ended UofL’s 34-conference match win streak with their 25-19, 25-22, 16-25, 17-25, 15-8 victory. Janelle Jenkins totaled 18 kills and Roxanne McVey recorded 24 digs in a losing effort for the Cards. Meanwhile Jenkins tallied 19 kills and Tess Clark 18 as outlasted the Yellow Jackets 25-22, 25-18, 18-25, 24-26, 15-10. Katie George (52 assists and 12 digs) and Maya McClendon (15 kills and 19 digs) added double-doubles for Louisville. The Cards (10-4, 1-1) next play at Virginia Tech on Friday night.

    • The women’s soccer team played host Miami to a 1-all draw on Sunday afternoon in an ACC match at Coral Gables, Fla. Allison Price scored the lone goal for UofL (4-5-1, 1-1-1). The Cards next play at Duke on Saturday afternoon.

    • The women’s tennis team went 5-3 in singles and doubles at the Notre Dame Invitational, which took place Friday and Saturday in South Bend, Ind.
