For Louisville locals, it’s a no-brainer that this city has one of the nation’s most delicious and eclectic local food scenes. We have everything from thick kangaroo burgers and perfectly seasoned local duck meatballs at Game to scrumptious vegan loaded mac and cheese from the one-of-a-kind V-Grits food truck. And now, thanks to a panel of seven expert judges from USA today, Louisville is getting some national recognition for its divine collection of cuisine.

Voting recently ended for USA Today’s “10 Best Local Food Scenes” poll, landing Louisville at number two on the list, beating out big cities like Nashville and New Orleans! And with twenty of America’s biggest cities nominated by food experts and voted on by thousands of USA Today readers, that’s pretty impressive.

Louisville was beat only by Minneapolis – St. Paul, which took the first place spot for its nature-inspired cuisine, specifically highlighting the “creative multicourse dinners” at local restaurant, Travail and its inventive menu of pork dishes including pig tails at local favorite, Piccolo.

Louisville earned its spot on the list for its restaurants’ “carefully curated relationships with area farmers.” The reveal of the list also included special highlights on the delectable fare served up at Proof on Main and Harvest, two of downtown’s most highly recommended restaurants. The free-range beef offered at Lilly’s Bistro was also noted along with Seviche’s menu which features a variety of the city’s freshest seafood deliciously prepared by the restaurant’s talented chef, Anthony Lamas.

    Here’s the complete list:

    1. Minneapolos – St. Paul
    2. Louisville
    3. Nashville
    4. Providence
    5. Raleigh, N.C.
    6. Asheville, N.C.
    7. Oakland
    8. New Orleans
    9. Portland, Maine
    10. Charleston, S.C.

Other cities that were nominated but surprisingly didn’t make the cut include Chicago, New York and San Francisco.
