At The Vanishing Point and Ben Sollee Arrive at Actors Theatre

    Does the title sound familiar?

If you’ve been around Actors Theatre long enough, it probably should. At the Vanishing Point isn’t new. It was first brought to the Actors Theatre stage in 2004, as part of that year’s Humana Festival.

But that inaugural production—and the 2015 production—are not even close to being the same.

Because the 2015 production has been re-envisioned. And at Actors,‘re-envisioned’ means practically brand new.

At the Vanishing Point has strong ties to the Louisville area. In fact, it is written based on source material—interviews, photographs, and other research—from the Butchertown neighborhood, one of Louisville’s oldest areas. That information laid the groundwork for the mix of myth and history that became the content for the play.

“The piece is about the spirit of a place,” says playwright Naomi Iizuka, “and what drew all sorts of different people to this extraordinary part of America.”

In addition to reveling in a professional production with a strong Louisville connection, audience members have the opportunity to experience the music of Kentucky native, musician Ben Sollee, who will be performing as part of the cast, and whose original score plays a pivotal role in the production.

At the Vanishing Point, directed by Artistic Director Les Waters, opens Tuesday, January 27 and runs through February 15. Tickets are available online or by calling the Actors Theatre box office at 502.584.1205. There will be an open captioned performance on February 7 and an audio described performance on February 8.

    About Michelle Rynbrandt

Before landing in the Possibility City, Michelle toured the country performing in various regional theatres. Having been there and done that, she can honestly say that Louisville's cultural opportunities are second to none.
