I've been slacking, kids, and so today we've got a twofer. Today we will be talking about escape and song, love of family and love of music, Western derivatives and music documentaries. All of this is what is known in professional circles as Good Stuff. It's a good week to go to the movies, is what I'm saying – because these two won't last. We've got a double feature as far as Village 8 Louisville Exclusives (because one of them carried over for an extra week of running.
So: first up is a film many of you may have caught at this year's Flyover Film Festival. It is Ain't Them Bodies Saints. It concerns the story of Bob Muldoon, played by Casey Affleck, who took the heat after his wife (Rooney Mara) shot an officer of the law. Now, unable to bear being away from his love, and desperate to meet his daughter who was born during his incarceration, he escapes his bonds. Can the pursuit of love outlast the pursuit of the law? Tune in to find out!
While you're there, ease up with some lighter fare with 20 Feet From Stardom, which tells the stories of some of the most important – but often overlooked – denizens of the music industry: the backup singers. They are essential to so much of the world of music, whether you're listening to a recording or taking in the whole concert experience, and yet we often don't give them much thought. This documentary takes you behind the scenes and into their lives.
Both films are scheduled to run until Thursday, September 12. Village 8 is located at 4014 Dutchmans Lane. Further theater information and showtimes can be found at the Village 8 website.
